Classes for Older Adults

*Indicates limited enrollment. indicates State supported.
All classes for older adults are free, however the Senior Center charges a small fee for use of the facility, payable at the Senior Center. It is advisable to register early through Albany Adult School, since classes fill quickly. Students must be 55 or older. All classes start the week of September 8.

American and European Short Stories

Fine and Applied Arts: Papier-mâché Whimsy

Instructor Bio/Class Details (Online registration: class is in the Older Adults category) No! This is not your fourth grade flour paste and balloon experience. Your outcomes will be much more sophisticated, thoughtful, playful and creative. Come, observe the class, do messy play and see how we recycle paper, cardboard and plastic into art. Bring a roll of 1 inch masking tape, full newspaper issue, scissors and a couple of coat hangers to the first class.

Fine and Applied Arts: Textile Art

Instructor Bio/Class Details (Online registration: class is in the Older Adults category) Learn cross cultural handwork or turn old jean jacket material or old ties into wearable art or make unique decorator items worked in traditional crewel, Crazy Patch or a bold Northwest Coast button design. Try reverse appliqué such as the San Blas Island people (molas) or Ainus or Hokkaido, Japan. Having no art or drawing experience can be an asset. Bring treasured yardage, sharp scissors, dressmaker pins and a yard of unbleached muslin to first class.

(Online registration: class is in the Older Adults category) Attend matinee performances at the Berkeley Rep and Aurora Theatres with student discount tickets. Discuss pre and post-performances. Guest speakers will enrich the theater experiences. Meets at Northbrae Community Church (NCC), Berkeley. If you want to attend the first class field trip to Aurora Theater at 7 PM on Sunday 9/28/08 please bring $21 in cash & a plain envelope to your class meeting.
