Recorder

Beginning Recorder 1 - Recorder music from VERY beginning! Will learn basic fingering, blowing and music reading. Learn the basics of music making through learning to play the recorder. Study either soprano or alto recorder, learning fingerings for an octave and a half, hand position, blowing, breathing, and tonguing; basic music reading skills. Beginning bass recorder players may join class. MUST play alto recorder already. (Eight classes starting Oct 5)
Intermediate Ensemble - Prerequisite: Beginning Recorder 2 or equivalent. Develop proficiency in ensemble skills playing in recorder ensemble of all sizes; allows expansion to other recorder sizes. Refine understanding and practice of all elements of music making through learning to play well in recorder ensemble of all four sizes. Work with conductor to with greater emphasis on tuning, execution of fingerings, phrasing and articulation together. May use class to obtain proficiency on tenor and bass sizes of recorder. Consort music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. (Eight classes starting Oct 5)
Advanced Ensemble - Prerequisite: Know both C and F fingerings, able to carry line alone, substantial previous ensemble experience. Must already play SATB or be willing to learn bass. More complex music, emphasis on developing all recorder technique, including greater facility, sigh treading, more varied articulation and practicing ensemble skills. More one on-a-part playing. Polyphony from medieval to modern for recorders. (Eight classes starting Oct 5)

Painting and Drawing - Watercolor
Instructor Biowww.stephaniescott.org (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Open to all levels. Beginning students will work in watercolor, learning the basics of watercolor painting, including mixing and applying washes, use of color, value, line, shape, form, light, rhythm, & texture. Class includes instruction & demonstration of specific techniques such as "wet into wet" & "dry brush" & different ways of starting paintings. Beginning students are shown specific exercises to learn about color mixing & paint handling after which they may work on subjects of their choice. Advanced students can work in watercolor or their choice of media, with instructor working with them individually. Basic drawing & composition as it relates to creating a painting will be taught to all. Students are encouraged to create visual richness by developing the thought & feeling their work. Students should bring any supplies they already have to first class.  Materials will be discussed and list handed out at first class. Students supply their own paint, brushes, & paper. There is a $4 materials fee due at first class. The Artist's Way
