Chamber Strings Instructor Bio/Rehearsal Schedule (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Violin, viola, cello and bass players are invited to join this forty-member orchestra to rehearse and perform a variety of classical works. Guitar - Beginning (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) If you want to know the basics of the guitar, this is the class for you. Tuning, basic chords, strumming, correct technique, and songs. (Ten classes starting Sep 14)
Guitar - Intermediate (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) We will learn advanced chords, scales, exercises, and how to jam with another guitarist. I will also show you how to use the Internet to learn how to play specific styles and songs you like. (Ten classes starting Sep 16)
Recorder (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Beginning Recorder 1 - Recorder music from VERY beginning! Will learn basic fingering, blowing and music reading. Learn the basics of music making through learning to play the recorder. Study either soprano or alto recorder, learning fingerings for an octave and a half, hand position, blowing, breathing, and tonguing; basic music reading skills. Beginning bass recorder players may join class. MUST play alto recorder already. (Eight classes starting Oct 5) Intermediate Ensemble - Prerequisite: Beginning Recorder 2 or equivalent. Develop proficiency in ensemble skills playing in recorder ensemble of all sizes; allows expansion to other recorder sizes. Refine understanding and practice of all elements of music making through learning to play well in recorder ensemble of all four sizes. Work with conductor to with greater emphasis on tuning, execution of fingerings, phrasing and articulation together. May use class to obtain proficiency on tenor and bass sizes of recorder. Consort music from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. (Eight classes starting Oct 5) Advanced Ensemble - Prerequisite: Know both C and F fingerings, able to carry line alone, substantial previous ensemble experience. Must already play SATB or be willing to learn bass. More complex music, emphasis on developing all recorder technique, including greater facility, sigh treading, more varied articulation and practicing ensemble skills. More one on-a-part playing. Polyphony from medieval to modern for recorders. (Eight classes starting Oct 5)
Vocal Jazz Workshop - Beginning Instructor Bio/Class Details (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Introduces beginning singers to solo jazz repertoire. Calligraphy (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Every quarter we learn a new script. We start with a traditional script and then introduce a modern variation. During the first class, we talk about the tools we will be using and start doing pattern exercises. We usually introduce things such as bookbinding as well. All levels are welcome! Painting and Drawing - Watercolor Instructor Bio / www.stephaniescott.org (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) Open to all levels. Beginning students will work in watercolor, learning the basics of watercolor painting, including mixing and applying washes, use of color, value, line, shape, form, light, rhythm, & texture. Class includes instruction & demonstration of specific techniques such as "wet into wet" & "dry brush" & different ways of starting paintings. Beginning students are shown specific exercises to learn about color mixing & paint handling after which they may work on subjects of their choice. Advanced students can work in watercolor or their choice of media, with instructor working with them individually. Basic drawing & composition as it relates to creating a painting will be taught to all. Students are encouraged to create visual richness by developing the thought & feeling their work. Students should bring any supplies they already have to first class. Materials will be discussed and list handed out at first class. Students supply their own paint, brushes, & paper. There is a $4 materials fee due at first class. (Seven classes starting Oct 5)

Beginning students will work in acrylics, learning how to handle acrylic paint, including how to mix colors, use of mediums, texture & washes, how to see values & build compositions. Beginning students are shown specific exercises to learn about color mixing & paint handling after which they can choose to paint abstracts, landscapes, botanical studies, still-life's or other subjects of their choosing. Advanced students can work in acrylics or their choice of media, with instructor working with them individually. Basic drawing & composition as it relates creating a painting will be taught to all. Students are encouraged to create visual richness by developing thought & feeling in their work. Students should bring any supplies they already have to first class. Materials will be discussed & list handed out at first class. Students supply their own paint brushes, paper & canvas. There is a $4 materials fee due at first class. (Seven classes starting Oct 5)
The Artist's Way (Online registration: class is in the Music, Arts & Crafts category) This class is for "anyone interested in practicing the art of creative living - an expanded sense of creativity in our business lives, in sharing with our children, our spouse, our friends." The first hour of the course will include essays, exercises, tasks, and check-ins. The 2nd hour will include "making art," using writing, drawing, collage, and other media. The goal of this course is to have fun while making art, and to express yourself with confidence, freedom, and excitement. (Ten weeks starting Sep 16)
