English as a Second Language (also known as ESL) is a program designed to help students who do not speak English gain command of the English language. Foreign-born students are encouraged to attend these classes if they have been in the United States for several years or have just recently immigrated.
Students DO NOT need to be Albany residents to enroll. Students from outside of Albany are welcome.
Most classes meet at 601 San Gabriel. Students may start anytime if space permits. (ESL classes begin the week of Sep 13)

TOEFL Preparation (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
(Online registration: class is in the Personal Enrichment category) The TOEFL Exam is globally accepted as a university admission requirement for non-native speakers of English. But preparation for this exam will give the student more than that; it will also prepare her or him to participate fully in professional, academic & social life in English. Using BARRON’s TOEFL iBT Guidebook with CD-ROM (approx. $30) students will follow a 10-week study plan that allows them to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, master academic skills, practice with model tests and take the test feeling confident. Students will form partnerships with classmates in order to make their out-of-class study hours more pleasant and productive. (For High Beginning to Advanced English learners) (Ten weeks starting Sep 15)
