Phyllis Clipson is a cardiac yoga instructor who was certified by Nischala Devi. Nischala set up the stress reduction portion of Dean Ornish's "Reversing Heart Disease" program. Dr. Ornish proved that heart disease could be reversed without drugs and surgery, but by simple lifestyle changes instead. Yoga is one part of his program.

Phyllis works privately with clients who have heart disease and other illnesses. Formerly a ballet teacher, Phyllis began practicing yoga daily to heal from a lifelong illness. Phyllis has been teaching for more than 30 years. She was ordained by Ron Roth who is the head of Celebrating Life Ministries and Oneness University USA. An ordained minister and spiritual healer, she works with people at sites in Berkeley, Pinole and by phone, using a variety of practices to heal one's life (not just physical health matters) bringing about fulfillment and joy.

Class Description: Gentle Yoga
Yoga means union - union of the body, mind, emotions, and indwelling spirit; union with others and, ultimately, union with the divine creative intelligence of the universe. This is an easy class where each participant is encouraged to honor their own body's wisdom by modifying or eliminating poses so that the class works optimally for each person.

To calm the mind and emotions, breathing exercises, deep relaxation, and in these times, a peace meditation are offered. Bring a mat to cushion the spine against the floor. Bring two bed pillows (three if you are tall or have low back issues) for optimal comfort lying down. You will need a blanket, as the body temperature drops during deep relaxation. You might also bring an eye pillow or a washcloth to encourage the eyes to relax and block out light.
